Volunteer

Volunteers are a big part of who we are at Safeplace. With our limited staff and six rural counties to serve, our volunteers are vital our day-to-day operations. They often provide that much needed link to services we would not be able to provide otherwise. We try to rotate
orientations throughout the six counties we serve so all persons interested can learn about opportunities in their communities.. Whatever your level of commitment, whether once a week or once a month, Safeplace staff will work with you to determine the best fit for your skills and talents.

To Become a Safeplace Volunteer

• Attend one of our monthly Volunteer Orientations. Currently, our Volunteer Orientations
are virtual to keep everyone safe and healthy! (Registration details for these online
orientations are posted on Facebook or you can call 256-767-3076 ext. 109 for details.)
• Sign a confidentiality contract and a no-firearms/weapons contract.
•  Complete a child abuse/neglect clearance form.
• Be 18 years of age or older.

Once your paperwork has cleared, our Volunteer Manager will contact you about  areas you feel you would most like to work. Your training will be based on the area you choose. For example, a more in-depth training is needed for volunteers who answer the helpline, as opposed to those who might be most interested in fund-raising in their community. You will also discuss the amount of commitment you are interested in. Some of our volunteers want a set time each week. Some prefer that we call them when we have a need, while others are interested in becoming part of their local coalition. If you have a special skill, we will do our best to put your skills and talents where your interests and our current n needs intersect. We have a big tent.
